Discover your inner artist at CeramiCafe, where masterpieces are created every day out of pottery and paint. Open at Grossmont Center since 2000, CeramiCafe “attracts all types of people who enjoy doing something crafty,” says Manager Rob “It is a great way to clear the mind in a relaxing environment.”
CeramiCafe is an inviting paint-your-own pottery studio. At the studio, customers can choose a piece from among more than 500 different styles, including bowls, plates, banks, holiday figurines, and much more. Once the piece is selected, customers can paint it however they want. A ceramic tile can glow with an impressionistic sunset, while a mug can be personalized with the name of a favorite friend or perhaps a grandparent. Every piece is a unique expression of a customer’s artistic vision!
After the customer is finished painting, the staff at CeramiCafe glazes and fires the piece in one of the onsite kilns. The finished masterpiece can be picked up a few days later—it will be shiny and safe for use in both the dishwasher and the microwave.
In addition to the ready-made ceramic pieces, CeramiCafe also has a great way to create a treasured memento with its clay prints service. Parents can bring in their baby or child to have their sweet little hand or foot prints imprinted onto a clay plaque. It forever captures a childhood moment in a uniquely wonderful way. (Clay prints are also terrific for pet paw prints, too!).
Customers of all ages are welcome at CeramiCafe, which now offers more seating and more paintable items. The centerpiece of the shop is the separate party room, which is a fantastic place to host a kid’s birthday party, an offsite work event, or a troop of Scouts working toward a badge.
Birthday parties are 90 minutes of great creative fun for kids! They get to play with paint while creating their works of art, and eat cupcakes, too—and parents will appreciate they don’t have to clean up afterwards! Adults get in on the fun as well, with evening events such as Mom’s Night Out, which includes a discount for groups of six or more. There is also the popular Wine and Cheese Night, where every Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. CeramiCafe provides the cheese and crackers and painters bring in their own beverages and any other food they desire. It is a guaranteed good time!
CeramiCafe regularly supports the community with fundraising opportunities too. Organizations can raise money with onsite painting parties, or schools can sell tiles that will be painted by students and then put together to create a striking mosaic mural on campus. CeramiCafe gift cards also make ideal items for auction baskets.
CeramiCafe is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year, to enjoy its fun, friendly, and safe environment. It is particularly incredible during special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and, of course, the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons. “Kids can paint a parent or grandparent something special—a handprint on a mug or bowl, or a unique ornament for the tree,” Josh says. CeramiCafe team members encourage customers’ creativity by working with them to select just the right piece, answering their questions, and generally providing encouragement and a safe space to play while they make art. The staff members strive to create a welcoming place that draws people in, and they are wildly successful at it—in fact, there are often repeat clients and also new clients who come based on the glowing recommendations they have heard about CeramiCafe. Once you see how much joy you feel while painting and creating, you too will want to return again and again!
That is the kind of experience customers can expect when they buy local at businesses that provide a unique service. Personalized attention and quality products are hallmarks of these shops, and the owners put in extensive time and effort to keep customers satisfied and coming back. At Grossmont Center, our “shop local” tenants are a valuable part of our community, and they are the engine that keeps La Mesa’s economy humming. When you shop at these businesses, you are supporting these extraordinary entrepreneurs and doing your part to help the community thrive. These unique businesses make the Center—and the community—a distinctive destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
There is an artist inside everyone, just waiting to come out. Paint a piece of pottery at CeramiCafe and have your fun close brush with creativity.
