‌Reading Cinemas ‌-‌ ‌Grossmont‌ ‌Center,‌ ‌La‌ ‌Mesa‌ ‌|‌ ‌Movie Theater ‌

Sure, you could stay at home on your couch streaming while munching on whatever you can scrounge up from your fridge. But why not elevate your movie-watching experience to the next level? Order a savory meal such as a Turkey Club Sandwich paired with your favorite craft beer (saving room for fresh-popped popcorn, of course!), then settle in to a comfy seat and enjoy the latest blockbuster presented with state-of-the-art audio/visual systems. Ready to buy a ticket? Then come to Reading Cinemas Grossmont 10 with TITAN XC.

The 10-screen multiplex at Grossmont Center is the place to go in La Mesa if you’re looking for an enjoyable time at the movies. Crowd-pleasing blockbusters, family-friendly animated films, cutting-edge or classic flicks—Reading Cinemas has it all!

“We want your experience here to be special,” says General Manager Craig Owens-Cree. “We offer the amenities that set us apart from other theaters, such as special screenings, an arcade, a full food and beverage menu, and much more.”

In an age where people can create a home theater with big-screen TVs and intricate sound systems, Reading Cinemas goes above and beyond to create an immersive filmgoing spectacle. The Grossmont Center theater complex has a screening room that boasts TITAN XC. Films are digitally projected on a gigantic screen that, at more than 55 feet wide and 31 feet tall, is one of the biggest in all of San Diego. The TITAN XC theater also has the capability of showing movies in eye-popping digital Dolby 3D. The audio is as crisp and pristine as the visuals, thanks to Dolby Surround 7.1 and, for certain films, Dolby Atmos® sound systems that utilize 51 different audio channels in the auditorium for an incredible sonic event.

Stadium seating means there is not a bad seat in the house—and it is easy to get a seat when you order online in advance of your show and either store the tickets on your phone or print them out at home. Other amenities include assisted listening devices, a self-service ticket kiosk, and an arcade where you can pass the time before your movie starts.

The films themselves are the best that Hollywood has to offer. All the newest releases are screened at Reading Cinemas, making it convenient for La Mesa residents to see these first-run flicks. In addition, the theater also offers its unique Signature Programming. Parents of young kids who want to get out of the house for a couple of hours, but do not want to pay for a babysitter, can bring their youngsters to the Cry Baby Matinee. Musical Mondays offers patrons a trip back to the golden age of movie musicals, screening classics such as “West Side Story,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” and “Bye Bye Birdie.” The theater also hosts themed mini-festivals as well as showings of filmed special events such as concerts and plays.

Of course, tasty food and drinks are a major part of going to the movies, and Reading Cinemas offers an outstanding concessions lineup that earns rave reviews from customers. Adult moviegoers appreciate the chance to have an adult beverage, such as their favorite craft IPA from Stone®, Ballast Point®, and other breweries; a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc; or a Manhattan or Tequila Sunrise from the full bar. On the flip side, there are Sunday deals where families can get an extra-large popcorn and free refills, as well as two fountain drinks and a choice of candy for a super-affordable price.

Popcorn is a movie theater staple, and you can get it fresh and piping hot here. Give your popcorn a delectable flavor twist by ordering the Caramel Corn or Popcorn Seasoning (just don’t eat all of it during the trailers!). There is so much more to tempt your taste buds. Early-bird matinee attendees can snack on doughnut holes or the Build Your Own Egg Sandwich. Moviegoers with small appetites can order from the Previews section of the menu, which includes a Hummus Platter, Loaded Nachos, and a Stuffed Pretzel. Entrees can be found in the Main Features portion of the menu and include pizzas and sandwiches—try the Bacon Grilled Cheese on toasted sourdough bread! Sandwiches come with a side of fries, which can also be ordered on their own. If you are watching a 2-hour-plus epic, keep your belly full with the Loaded Baked Potato Fries, which are cut thick and doused in creamy cheese sauce, sour cream, shredded cheddar, scallions, and chopped bacon. Save room for a scrumptious dessert such as Chocolate Lava Cake, an ice cream sundae, or a fresh-baked cookie. If you want a tried-and-true movie treat like Milk Duds® or M&Ms®, you can find those and more here, too.

Employees greet guests with smiles and a helpful attitude, and they work hard to keep the auditoriums, lobby, and restrooms sparkling clean. There is a current of excitement as patrons throng the theater, the pleasure of enjoying a really good movie hanging in the air. So get off your couch and watch a movie the way it is meant to be seen. You will give Reading Cinemas two thumbs up!
