One of the latest ad campaigns for Target is “Target Run and Done.” That perfectly encapsulates the experience of shopping at the retail giant, which has turned the notion of the traditional department store on its head and offers just about anything you could possibly ever need under one roof. Groceries? Done. Office supplies? Done. School clothes for the kids? Done. A new shower curtain for the bathroom, a toy for your niece’s birthday, or a charger for your cell phone? Done, done, and done. It’s the epitome of one-stop shopping!
The Grossmont Center Target is the perfect place for your Target Run, with plenty of free parking, a central, easy-to-access location in La Mesa, and a large, two-story space to showcase the store’s large stock of goods. And what a selection there is, with everything from clothing and home furnishings to tableware and small appliances. Factor in terrific deals that are offered every day, and it is no surprise that people talk about going to Target just to pick up some paper towels and leaving with hundreds of dollars in purchases instead. Target has everything you need—and many things you didn’t know you needed!
Target is renowned for its vast inventory that makes shopping simple, but the retailer has also made several innovations that have built upon and improved the usual department store experience. These concepts have enhanced Target’s brand and created its singular image as a desirable yet affordable place to shop:
A store card with great perks.
The Target REDcard is a must for regular Target shoppers. Offered in credit card and debit card versions, the REDcard offers 5% off just about everything in the store every day, including gift cards and clearance items. On top of that, cardholders are also eligible for special deals and early access to promotional offers, plus free two-day shipping for any Target.com purchases along with an extended window for returns.
An amazing app.
The Target app puts the entire store at your fingertips. Create shopping lists and browse the weekly ads to make your Target run as efficient as possible. Looking for a particular item? You can search for it on the app—you’ll be able to see if it is in stock at the Grossmont Center location and even find the aisle where it is shelved. The app also gives you access to Cartwheel, which offers discounts on dozens of different items on a rotating basis. You can also link your REDcard to the app so that you can just pay for your purchases with a simple barcode scan on your phone.
Fast and easy pickup.
Say you are really in a hurry on a particular Target run (or setting foot in the store is too tempting for you and your wallet!). Target offers shopping experiences designed to be streamlined. You can, of course, order an item online, and if it is in stock at the store, you can pick it up at the guest services desk within a couple of hours. However, Target has taken it a step further: Pick out your items on the Target app, get the notification your purchases are ready, and then pull up to a designated parking spot at the store and a Target employee will deliver them to your car. It is another great reason to download the Target app!
In-store brands that add cachet.
In recent years, Target has been rolling out its own brands that have become retail sensations drawing customers for the unique style and high quality of their collections. Opalhouse™ brings boho-chic to the home with rattan end tables, plush velvet armchairs, throw pillows and brilliantly-patterned wallpapers. Joy Lab™ makes fitness gear functional and fashionable, while Cat and Jack™ is a line of brightly colored kids’ clothes designed to be durable and last the entire school year (or until your kid has another growth spurt). Up&Up™ offers household staples at terrific prices. Stock up on everything from hand soap to vitamins and Heyday™ takes electronics essentials such as chargers, speakers, and earbuds and transforms them in vibrant shades such as teal and lilac. Target brands can be used in literally every room of your home.
Unique and exclusive partnerships.
Target is justifiably famous for its special collections that bring high-end or big-name brands to the masses. The store has worked with labels such as Victoria Beckham, Lilly Pulitzer®, Hunter®, and Marimekko; the most recent collaboration featured American apparel company vineyard vines®. These special-edition collections are usually offered for a limited time and sell out quickly. In addition to these one-time partnerships, Target has established long-term relationships with other big names. For many years, fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi created a special line for Target; currently, the big stars in the Target firmament are Chip and Joanna Gaines, who bring their Magnolia design sensibility to the Hearth & Hand™ line of home goods. All of these collaborations elevate Target above and beyond a typical big-box or department store.
An exciting new layout.
Over the past few years, Target has revamped the look of its stores to keep the design fresh and modern. The fully stocked grocery section has everything you need to fill your fridge, freezer, and pantry, plus there is a diverse offering of wines and beers. Floor space has been carved out for beautiful displays of patio furniture, women’s wear, and accessories illuminated by bright and flattering lighting. The beauty section has expanded to include a thorough selection of natural personal care products, and it is staffed with consultants who can work with shoppers on selecting the right eyeshadow shade or skin care cream. Many stores have a Starbucks for a quick pick-me-up latte. The goal is to create an optimal guest experience with everything from self-checkout stations to roomy aisles, inspired by the needs of each store’s particular community.
