We’re more than a mall, we’re a community
Grossmont Center proudly supports many non-profit organizations from La Mesa and the surrounding area. Giving back to the community is a big part of what Grossmont Center stands for. We believe in helping the amazing people and organizations who do so much to make this community a better place to live in whatever way we can.
Grossmont Center Supports Local Nonprofits
At Grossmont Center, we believe it is important to give back to the community and that is a value we enjoy putting into practice every day. We are proud supporters of many nonprofits in San Diego, especially some wonderful charities that are based in our La Mesa neighborhood. These organizations work tirelessly to make our community a better place and we want to help and support them achieve their goals in any way we can.
The Coins in the Fountains Are Donated
The Center has several initiatives that serve nonprofit organizations in San Diego. Some of these programs take place year-round—for instance, all coins tossed into the Center’s fountains are donated to the La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation. The Center also provides space for charities’ outreach efforts in the community. Traveling Stories promotes childhood literacy with its weekly Story Tent at the Center, while Oasis Lifelong Adventure serves adults ages 50 and up in a variety of ways at the Oasis Lifelong Learning Center.
Community Wide Events
Grossmont Center also offers you the terrific opportunity to help San Diego charities during community-wide special events with a philanthropic focus.
Blood Donation Events – 600 units of donated blood
We recognize that a plentiful blood supply is vital for a community. Donated blood can be used for people who are coping with serious illnesses and diseases, as well as victims of accidents or natural disasters. A low blood supply can make a life-or-death difference in their lives. That is why Grossmont Center is pleased to partner with the San Diego Blood Bank on regular blood drives. So far, these efforts have produced 600 units of donated blood that are vital in helping others during times of medical need. Anyone interested in donating blood can come to Grossmont Center’s Shop Local Market event, where blood drives are held on the last Saturday of every month.
Pet Adoption Events in San Diego – Over 1,500 pets adopted
Grossmont Center has also been a longtime supporter of causes and organizations that focus on animals. Some of our most popular events are the four huge pet adoptions we hold each year with the San Diego Animal Support Foundation. These events are truly heartwarming, as attendees get to interact with adorable potential pets and find their furry forever friends. Because of this commitment to the health and welfare of animals, Grossmont Center’s adoption events have resulted in 1,400 pets being successfully placed in loving homes.
E-waste Recycling Events in San Diego
At the Center, we also believe we have a responsibility to contribute to the preservation and beautification of our environment. To do our part, we host E-Waste Recycling events on a regular basis. It makes a lasting, impactful difference when electronic equipment is properly disposed and recycled. Instead of just tossing old TVs, computers, printers, and other electronic items in the trash, where they will eventually end up in a landfill, people can bring them to these events hosted by Green Hat Electronics. It makes recycling convenient and simple—and it’s an easy way to help keep our planet clean.

Shoppers know the Grossmont Center Certified Farmers Market is the best place around for sustainable, locally-sourced fruits and vegetables. Produced by the hard-working growers of San Diego County, these fresh products offer market-goers an opportunity to pick up high-quality food while simultaneously supporting local farmers.
