Chicken and Waffles. Ribeye Philly Cheesesteak. Charbroiled Ribs. Fried Oreos. Funnel Cake. San Diego’s king of deep-fried fair food, Chicken Charlie’s, is now open at Grossmont Center.
In its nearly three decades as a fair food vendor, Chicken Charlie’s has built a cult-like following for its deep-fried deliciousness. While the San Diego County Fair couldn’t take place in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, founder Charlie Boghosian decided to shift gears and open a pop-up eatery at Grossmont Center. The county fair staple is now open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm.
Chicken Charlie’s is set-up for customers to order online then pick up once it’s ready. Be prepared for a wait as the masses poured in for a taste of the fan favorites on opening day. Charlie Boghosian loves using his kitchen as a way to put smiles on people’s faces. “I think food is love and I love feeding people and there’s nothing better than fried chicken. We’re talking comfort food at its finest,” said Boghosian.
Chicken Charlie’s has spent countless hours inventing and cultivating new and unique food items. Treat yourself and the family to some new fried delicacies that will be having you feel like a winner after your next Chicken Charlie’s dinner.
