Grossmont Center proudly supports many non-profit organizations from La Mesa and the surrounding area. Giving back to the community is a big part of what Grossmont Center stands for. We believe in helping the amazing people and organizations who do so much to make this community a better place to live in whatever way we can.


This month, we are collecting canned and dry food items to benefit The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Drop off your donations to Guest Services or place them in one of the four donation bins located at Chuze Fitness. You can also quickly and easily donate online: click here

Reptile Association of San Diego

Everyone is welcome at Grossmont Center, whether it’s families, shoppers, The Reptile Association of San Diego is a not-for-profit group that has made it their very personal mission to be sure that every pet be given equal consideration in life – be it furry, feathered, or scaled. They aim to spread awareness through one-on-one relations and public interaction, promote of the responsible keeping of reptiles, and encourage and inspire the next generation of herpetology enthusiasts. Their pets are wonderful ambassadors of their individual species, and they invite you, the general public, to have the hands-on and exciting experience of meeting, touching, and even handling them.

San Diego Animal Support Foundation

Everyone is welcome at Grossmont Center, whether it’s families, shoppers, diners or dogs! We are proud to host three pet adoption events every year to connect families with an animal in need. Hundreds of adoptions have been made possible through these events at Grossmont Center.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. The Food Bank distributed 22 million pounds of food last year and serves 370,000 people every month in communities throughout San Diego County – including working-poor families, fixed-income seniors, elementary school children living in poverty, and 28,000 low-income, active-duty military personnel and their dependents. Grossmont Center is proud to partner with The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank by hosting food drives throughout the year. Click here to donate food online through the Virtual Food Drive.

San Diego Blood Bank

Grossmont Center is proud to partner with the San Diego Blood Bank to offer blood donation events at the Center. Giving blood is an easy thing to do, but it helps touch the lives of so many. Stay tuned for our next date of donation.


Green Hat Electronics hosts electronic recycling and document shredding services for schools, churches, non-profits and businesses throughout San Diego County. Grossmont Center is proud to partner with Green Hat Electronics by hosting quarterly e-waste donation events. Did you know that the average American household has three computers? These events allow our guests and neighbors access to safe electronic recycling and disposal, as well as confidential document shredding services. What better way to give back to the community than to assist in saving the environment?  On-site paper shredding will be offered for $5/box. Read more about Green Hat Electronics here.

The La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation

The La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation facilitates quality projects and programs that provide activities to strengthen community and family bonds as well as foster pride in La Mesa and its parks. Grossmont Center supports this mission by donating all coins from the fountains in the Center to the foundation.

Crisis House

Crisis House has served east county since 1970. Their mission is to respond immediately to stop the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness and connect families and individuals to crucial resources that empower them to renew their lives. Their emergency resource center is the only one in east county serving the homeless and those in crisis. Grossmont Center is proud to partner with Crisis House by collecting new and gently used sports apparel for donation to benefit Crisis House throughout the year. Read more about Crisis House here.

La Mesa Chamber of Commerce

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, like Grossmont Center, is all about the local community in the La Mesa area. With a focus on advocacy, education and networking, the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce hosts events throughout the year to benefit the neighborhood, for a complete list of events or to learn more about the chamber, please click here.


The East County Family YMCA offers a variety of programs, services and initiatives that enable kids to realize their potential, offer ways for families to have fun together, empower people to live healthier lives; prepare people for employment, welcome and embrace newcomers and help foster a cause driven community. Grossmont Center is proud to support this esteemed organization through various donation drives held at the mall.

The Princess Project

Grossmont Center is collecting new and gently used Prom dresses for The Princess Project. The Princess Project promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses and accessories to high school girls who cannot otherwise afford them. Their effort is made possible through invaluable volunteer, donor and community support. San Diego has been helping girls since 2009 find their prom dress. With the help of over 300 volunteers, they reach over 1,500 local teenagers, to make their prom dreams come true. They collect 1,000’s of dresses each season. They hope to collect over 2000 this season. Over the past eight years they have given away 6,050 dresses.

Maryland Avenue Elementary School

Grossmont Center is supporting our local community by benefiting a different organization each month throughout the year. This January, we collected donations of gently used sports equipment and shoes at Grossmont Center that benefited Maryland Avenue Elementary School!

Kiwanis International Club

The Kiwanis International Club is an international service organization dedicated to helping the lives of others. With members ages 8 to 80, the Kiwanis strive to help their communities and get children interested in volunteer work at a young age. Grossmont Center was the original host to their national “March of Dimes” event in San Diego, and is honored to be hosting their 100th anniversary food drive.

The La Mesa and Santee Pageants

For 25 years, Grossmont Center has been a sponsor of the Miss La Mesa, Miss Teen La Mesa, Miss Santee and Miss Teen Santee Pageants. One of their most grand traditions, these pageants provide a mentoring and leadership opportunity for young women allowing them to become a role model for girls in their communities. As the pageants are focused on community service, young women who are awarded the crown will serve as ambassadors of their cities, attending grand openings, parades, summer concerts and chamber functions throughout the year.

The Sports Boosters

Grossmont Center is all about family and events, which is why we support the Sports Booster program. This community organization is dedicated to promoting healthy and active lifestyles among our local youth through after-school sports programs. The program has contributed millions of dollars to athletic departments across the United States. Grossmont Center is proud to contribute to the Sports Boosters Program in support of our communities.
